their careers. Ric Kasnoff will present information about using online
digital resources to make your career more successful. This program is
timely and mission critical for your business. \n\nLocation: Tomas Pan

ktuck.com\nOr: www.ASMPASA.org\n\nThe nuts and bolts:\n\nThis seminar i
s about surviving as a Photographer in the digital age and new options f
or stock photography\, distribution\, sales and how to utilize them to y
our fullest advantage.\n\nThis is not about your grandfather‘s or even y
our father’s stock agency. It is not about whether a New York art direct
or working for mammoth multi-national thinks your work will be suitable
for their collection so they can sell it for a few dollars of which you
will get a small percentage.\n\nNope\, this meeting is about you the pho
tographer deciding what to market\, who to target\, what to charge\, and
how to keep more of the profits.\n\nThis meeting will be about a new ph
otographer-driven model that is entirely web based.\n\nOur sponsor for t
he evening is Digital Railroad. They have recently launched Digitalrailr
oad.net Marketplace a highly acclaimed new image sales service that's po
ised to turn the industry on its head by returning control\, opportunity
and profit back into the hands of photographers - where it belongs!\n\n
Whether we as pros like it or not\, stock photography has become the maj
or source of imagery for today's photo buyers\, designers and art direct
ors. In order to thrive and survive every pro photographer\, no matter w
hat their specialty\, needs to understand this market and how they can i
ntegrate it into their business.\n\nRic Kasnoff\, a longtime Pro Photogr
apher and Digital Railroad member will take us step by step through the
process for breaking into this marketplace. He will discuss: how shootin
g for stock can be different from assignment shooting\, how to budget\,
release forms\, and all the ins and outs to get you started. He will als
o explain how the DRR portal works and how their concept differs from th
e business model of other agencies.\n\nThe evening will also feature an
overview of the ASMP/Digital Railroad partnership and a review of specia
l benefits and discounts available for ASMP members. Thanks to Digital R
ailroad there will also be free goodies for door prizes: a copy of Adobe
Lightroom\, plus a 6-month free membership to Digital Railroad\n\nAbout
the presenter:\n\nRic Kasnoff has over 30 years experience as an award
winning editorial and commercial photographer as well as having been cer

DESCRIPTION:TPS Workshops\nAustin\, Texas\n\nThe Photographer’s Guide to
the Digital Darkroom\nBill Kennedy and Scott King\nMarch 24-25\, 2007\n
K2 Press\, 2832 East MLK Blvd.\, Ste. 105\, Austin\, Texas\n\nPhotograph
ers transitioning from traditional to digital photography often share im
portant questions and concerns: what equipment—hardware and software—do
I really need? How much do I need to learn—can I rely on my knowledge of
film and wet darkroom\, or do I have to master an entirely new process?
How are digital image files created\, how do I process them accurately\
, and why doesn’t the image I see on my display match the inkjet prints
I make?\n\nThis two-day workshop\, taught by Bill Kennedy and Scott King
\, will provide clear answers to these questions\, and much more. We wil
l cover digital file creation with cameras and scanners\, color manageme
nt for the digital darkroom\, printing on the OEM (original equipment ma
nufacturer) path\, using RIP’s\, and clarify the challenges of making be
autiful color and grayscale inkjet prints.\n\nBased on Bill’s best selli
ng textbook\, The Photographer’s Guide to the Digital Darkroom (Allworth
Press\, 2006)\, the workshop will be taught in the K2 Press studio\, lo
cated in the Flatbed Building\, in Austin\, Texas. Presentations will in
clude printing demo’s using the K2 Press workstations and printers\, inc
luding Epson’s K3 UltraChrome inks and Jon Cone’s K7 dedicated grayscale
inks.\n\nAttendees are encouraged to bring a small portfolio of work to
share\, and to bring prints that represent the kinds of problems or iss
ues that have plagued your workflow. You should have a good basic unders
tanding of computers and have a working familiarity with Photoshop.\n\nB
ill Kennedy has been involved in the digital darkroom since 1994. He is
an Associate Professor of Photography at St. Edward’s University\, with
extensive workshop teaching experience at the Maine Photographic Worksho
ps\, Santa Fe Workshops\, California State University Summer Arts Progra
m\, Anderson Ranch\, and others. Bill is a contributing author to two bu
siness of photography textbooks and helped develop the educational mater
ial for Editorial Photographers. His textbook\, The Photographer’s Guide
to the Digital Darkroom\, was published in 2006 and is currently in it’
s second printing. Bill is a partner in Kennedy Lindberg\, a wedding pho
tography business in Austin\, Texas. His photography has been widely col
lected by institutions and individuals\, and he is a recipient of an M-A
AA/NEA Photographer’s Grant among other awards for his commercial and fi
ne art photography.\n\nScott King is drawn to images and the technology
of image making. Conversant in wet darkroom\, alternative print processe
s\, and the digital darkroom\, Scott is driven by a desire to make beaut
iful prints. A commercial and fine art photographer\, Scott brings to K2
Press an extensive technology background. He has over 15 years experien
ce in software and hardware technology\, business process re-engineering
\, and systems development and integration. In addition to K2 Press\, Sc
ott is principal at IdealFlow\, a management consulting group focused on
bringing operations excellence to established Fortune 500 companies\, a
s well as start-ups and newly established companies. Prior to founding I

\n\nThis program is vitally important for photographers at all stages of
their careers. Ric Kasnoff will present information about using online
digital resources to make your career more successful. This program is
timely and mission critical for your business. \n\nLocation: Tomas Pan
tin Studio at 1601 East 7th Street (The corner of 7th Street and Comal)

ht Refreshments will be available\n\nFor More information: Kirktuck@kir
ktuck.com\nOr: www.ASMPASA.org\n\nThe nuts and bolts:\n\nThis seminar i
s about surviving as a Photographer in the digital age and new options f
or stock photography\, distribution\, sales and how to utilize them to y
our fullest advantage.\n\nThis is not about your grandfather‘s or even y
our father’s stock agency.
Lightroom\, plus a 6-month free membership to Digital Railroad\n\nAbout
the presenter:\n\nRic Kasnoff has over 30 years experience as an award
winning editorial and commercial photographer as well as having been cer
tified by Apple and Adobe as an Expert and Instructor in many of the cur
rent professional level Digital Imaging applications. Passionate\, infor
med and entertaining\, Ric uses examples of his and other pro photograph

for your family and friends. **There just weren't enough hours left in
the day to learn all that you need to know about marketing in the digita

an optimistic attitude while royalty-free\, micro-stock\, and the world
economy have eroded the size of the photo assignment pie.\n\nKnowing how
marketing has dramatically changed is the other key component to surviv
al. Making the transition to an all-digital workflow is just one piece o

finally shakes out?\n\nAre you wondering\n\n* What's the best way to re

not look like a loser?\n* What are the current best practices when it c
